Our Commitment

Built with
select grade hardwoods.

We build our cabinets with a variety of select grade hardwoods. Our expert craftsmen carefully select and grain match our doors, drawer fronts, and face frames producing an unparalleled beauty that is unmistakably Mingo Mountain.

We use domestic maple plywood for our cabinet boxes and provide furniture quality, solid maple dovetailed drawers with "Blumotion" runners. We choose the highest quality hinges, drawer slides, and other components to ensure a lifetime of trouble-free use.

We finish our cabinets with conversion varnish in an unlimited variety of stain tints, solid colors, glazes, and distresses. Our unique finishes require painstaking and patient handwork — the only way to create the beautiful finishes for which we are known. Mingo Mountain will do an expert installation, and leave you with a completely finished job.

How We Work

Our Process,
Your Vision

How We Work

Our process,
your vision.

We believe the best work comes from close collaboration. Here is how we turn your vision into a finished piece you will have for life.

01
Consultation

We begin with a conversation — learning about your space, your lifestyle, your tastes, and your goals. No pressure, no sales pitch. Just genuine listening from craftsmen who love what they do.

02
Design

Together, we develop a plan that is both beautiful and functional — selecting wood species, door styles, finishes, hardware, and layout to reflect who you are and how you live.

03
Material Selection

We personally select the hardwood lumber for your project, grain matching doors and drawer fronts for a seamless, flowing aesthetic. The right material makes all the difference.

04
Construction

Every piece is built by hand in our Kettle Falls studio using select hardwoods, maple plywood boxes, dovetailed drawers, and premium hardware. James, Janet and Russ personally oversee every stage.

05
Finishing

Our conversion varnish finishing process requires painstaking, patient handwork. Stain tints, glazes, distresses, and solid colors — each piece receives multiple coats and careful sanding between applications.

06
Quality Check

Before anything leaves our shop, every door, drawer, and cabinet is thoroughly inspected. Soft-close hardware is adjusted, finishes are reviewed, and dimensions are verified against your plans.

07
Installation

We handle the complete installation ourselves — so you can be confident the finished result perfectly matches the vision, down to the very last detail. We leave your home clean and completely finished.

08
Aftercare

Our relationship doesn't end at installation. We stand behind our work and are always available for adjustments, questions, or future additions to your home. Our work is built to last a lifetime.

Our Promise

You work directly
with the makers.

"From start to finish, you will be working directly with expert cabinetmakers — no middlemen, no compromises."

When you commission Mingo Mountain, you work directly with James, Janet and Russ Fish. Not a salesperson. Not a project manager. The craftsmen who will personally build your cabinets are the same people who design them with you and install them in your home.

The Craftsmen

James, Janet & Russ —
A Family Craft

The Craftsmen

A family built on
craft & dedication.

Mingo Mountain Woodworking is a family business. James Fish and his wife Janet are the founders, and their son Russ Fish has grown up in the trade and is now a full partner in the company. Together, they bring decades of shared experience, a deep respect for materials, and an unwavering commitment to every client they serve.

Russ Fish
Russ Fish
Partner & Craftsman

Russ Fish is the son of founders James and Janet Fish, and has grown up immersed in the world of fine woodworking. Having spent his formative years in the Mingo Mountain shop learning the trade from his father, Russ has developed into a skilled craftsman and a full partner in the company.

Russ brings fresh energy and a trained eye to every project — working alongside James and Janet to ensure that each kitchen, vanity, and built-in that leaves the shop meets the exacting standards that Mingo Mountain has always been known for.

James Fish
James Fish
Co-Founder & Master Craftsman

James Fish is the founder of Mingo Mountain Woodworking and has been doing fine woodworking for decades. With a particular mastery of finishing — glazes, distresses, and the many variations of conversion varnish — his technical depth is what gives Mingo Mountain its unmistakable aesthetic quality.

James is involved in every stage of the build process, from the first design sketch to the final walkthrough with the client. His belief that a truly great kitchen should be a joy to use every day, not just beautiful to look at, drives the functionality-first thinking that underpins all of Mingo Mountain's work.

Janet Fish
Janet Fish
Co-Founder & Partner

Janet Fish is the co-founder of Mingo Mountain Woodworking and the backbone of the business. Working alongside James since the beginning, Janet brings warmth, vision, and a keen design sensibility to every client relationship. She is involved in project design and client consultations, ensuring that the finished space truly reflects the homeowner's taste and lifestyle.

Janet's influence is felt in the thoughtfulness that defines every Mingo Mountain project — the care taken in understanding a client's needs, the attention to detail in material selection, and the genuine passion for creating spaces that families will love for generations.
